Today was much better than yesterday. I slept relatively well the last two nights, and I have cut down to pain killers at night only. The swelling is starting to recede and the pain at the incision points/inside the joint are finally settling down.
I owe a BIG thank you to my parents (particularly mum, and dad for keeping the freezer stocked with ice), they have been putting up with my complaining over the past 3 days and didn’t call me a princess once. I am usually pretty good with pain however when it feels like its not getting better, its hurting where it shouldn’t hurt and is a constant sickening dull ache that continues on day and night it can be rough.
Luckily though today I have been able to start my movement exercises properly, activating my quads, hamstrings and calves to start to reactivate the muscle and limit muscle atrophy. I can feel my leg getting weaker, but at least now I am actively helping keep it strong.
I am walking around with 1 crutch now which is an awesome improvement and it also means I can carry stuff in one hand which brings back a whole level of independence that I didn’t know I craved.
Surprisingly I have already lost 1.5 kilograms since I went into surgery. This is not ideal as it either means I am eating at a calorie deficit and losing weight, which will speed up muscle atrophy and slow down tissue recovery. Or I am losing too much muscle too quickly in my leg. Either way I am super thankful to specifically my mother for cooking and preparing all of my food so far this week.
